THE PROPHET النبي

A Prophet sat in the market-place and told the fortunes of all who cared to engage his services. جلس نبي في السوق وأخبر بمصير كل من أراد الاستفادة من خدماته. Un prophète s'asseyait sur la place du marché et prédisait l'avenir à tous ceux qui voulaient faire appel à ses services. Suddenly there came running up one who told him that his house had been broken into by thieves, and that they had made off with everything they could lay hands on. وفجأة ركض رجل وأخبره أن بيته قد تعرض للاقتحام من قبل اللصوص، وأنهم سرقوا كل ما استطاعوا الوصول إليه. Soudain, quelqu'un accourut et lui raconta que sa maison avait été cambriolée par des voleurs et qu'ils s'étaient emparés de tout ce qu'ils avaient pu mettre la main dessus. He was up in a moment, and rushed off, tearing his hair and calling down curses on the miscreants. لقد نهض في لحظة، وهرع بعيدًا، وهو يمزق شعره ويدعو إلى اللعنات على الأشرار. The bystanders were much amused, and one of them said, "Our friend professes to know what is going to happen to others, but it seems he's not clever enough to perceive what's in store for himself." لقد استمتع الحاضرون كثيرًا، وقال أحدهم: "يدعي صديقنا أنه يعرف ما سيحدث للآخرين، لكن يبدو أنه ليس ذكيًا بما يكفي ليدرك ما هو في انتظاره لنفسه". Les spectateurs étaient très amusés, et l'un d'eux dit : "Notre ami prétend savoir ce qui va arriver aux autres, mais il semble qu'il ne soit pas assez intelligent pour percevoir ce qui lui est réservé".
