THE LARK AND THE FARMER
القبرة والمزارع
A Lark nested in a field of corn, and was rearing her brood under cover of the ripening grain.
تعشش قبرة في حقل الذرة، وتربي صغارها تحت غطاء من الحبوب الناضجة.
Une alouette a fait son nid dans un champ de maïs et élevait sa couvée à l'abri des grains qui mûrissaient.
One day, before the young were fully fledged, the Farmer came to look at the crop, and, finding it yellowing fast, he said, "I must send round word to my neighbours to come and help me reap this field."
ذات يوم، قبل أن تنمو البراعم الصغيرة بشكل كامل، جاء المزارع لينظر إلى المحصول، وعندما وجده يصفر بسرعة، قال: "يجب أن أرسل رسالة إلى جيراني ليأتوا لمساعدتي في حصاد هذا الحقل".
Un jour, alors que les petits n'avaient pas encore pris leur envol, le fermier vint voir la récolte et, la trouvant en train de jaunir rapidement, il dit : "Il faut que j'envoie un message à mes voisins pour qu'ils viennent m'aider à moissonner ce champ."
One of the young Larks overheard him, and was very much frightened, and asked her mother whether they hadn't better move house at once.
سمعه أحد صغار القبرات، فخاف بشدة، وسألت أمها عما إذا كان من الأفضل لهم الانتقال إلى منزل آخر على الفور.
L'une des jeunes alouettes l'entendit et, très effrayée, demanda à sa mère si elles ne feraient pas mieux de déménager immédiatement.
"There's no hurry," replied she; "a man who looks to his friends for help will take his time about a thing."
"لا داعي للاستعجال"، أجابت، "الرجل الذي يتطلع إلى أصدقائه طلبًا للمساعدة سوف يأخذ وقته في أمر ما".
"Il n'y a pas d'urgence, répondit-elle ; un homme qui compte sur l'aide de ses amis prend son temps.
In a few days the Farmer came by again, and saw that the grain was overripe and falling out of the ears upon the ground.
وبعد أيام قليلة، عاد المزارع مرة أخرى، ورأى أن الحبوب أصبحت ناضجة للغاية وبدأت تتساقط من السنابل على الأرض.
Quelques jours plus tard, le fermier est repassé et a constaté que le grain était trop mûr et que les épis tombaient sur le sol.
"I must put it off no longer," he said; "This very day I'll hire the men and set them to work at once."
"لا ينبغي لي أن أؤجل الأمر أكثر من ذلك"، قال. "في هذا اليوم بالذات، سأستأجر الرجال وأجعلهم يعملون على الفور".
"Aujourd'hui même, je vais engager les hommes et les mettre au travail immédiatement.
The Lark heard him and said to her young, "Come, my children, we must be off: he talks no more of his friends now, but is going to take things in hand himself."
سمعت القبرة كلامه وقالت لصغارها: تعالوا يا أولادي، يجب أن نرحل: لم يعد يتحدث عن أصدقائه الآن، لكنه سيأخذ الأمور بين يديه بنفسه.
L'Alouette l'entendit et dit à ses petits : "Venez, mes enfants, il faut partir : il ne parle plus de ses amis maintenant, mais il va prendre les choses en main lui-même."
Self-help is the best help.
