acquainted my name is John on the count
of three give me your name one two three
nice to meet you
Marlon I've been married for 45 years we
have two children we have five
grandchildren most of you are way too
young to know this but grandchildren are
God's gift to you for not killing your
children are there any grandparents out
there your that just raise your hands
you know something the rest of these
people here don't know and that is that
when you have your first grandchild I
mean this is amazing
you hold that little baby in your arms
you say this is the smartest most
beautiful baby ever born and then you
ask yourself a question why did
intelligence skip a generation
[Laughter]
I was speaking in a large convention and
I said that and I forgot that my son
Joel was in the audience and he met me
at the greenroom when I was done
speaking and as soon as I saw him I said
Joel honey you know near that story of
grandchildren and intelligence giving
generation you know I was just kidding
and he smiled he said it's okay dad it's
okay
but you said I think you're right
[Laughter]
I said you do he says yeah he says I
think you're right
he said just last week grandpa and I had
that very same discussion oh it's good
to be with you it really is I've just
I've been delighted ever since they said
that I would have this opportunity
because I really want to pour into your
life I want to add value to you and and
and your very valuable and your very
important and I want to give you my very
best and I just so let me just say a
couple of things so I can get launched
into what I want to teach on the 15 laws
of growth people ask me all the time
about books that will help them really
develop themselves and really help
themselves grow and I'm going to teach a
few of the laws probably three or four
of the of the 15 laws of growth but I
want to encourage you if you don't have
that book I'm going to give you a couple
books you need to get that'll just help
establish you it in this in in this area
and help you be successful and what is
the 15 loss of growth if you don't have
it I want you to get it okay that's the
Bible on personal development growth
it's not only phenomenal for you but it
will help you grow the people that you
lead and I'm going to teach three or
four of those laws here in a moment
but that's that's a book that I think
it's just essential for your for your
development for your growth the second
book is one that just literally came out
two weeks ago and I'm so excited about
it called good leaders ask great
questions now I'm going to tell you and
I know they have I signed books for
about an hour this morning and I know
they have it here or they did have it
here at least because I signed a lot of
those they have the 15 volts or growth
here I know they have the mother's books
here and I just want to I just want to
encourage if you don't have them get
them and the reason for that is the the
good leaders ask great questions this
this book I'm so excited about because
let me just say that questions the kind
of questions you ask are the key that
unlocked the door of opportunity in your
life if I have three hours I could just
give you question
that I have asked that have dead
literally worth millions of dollars to
me
I mean questions that if I would have
never asked the questions I would have
never had the opportunity and I would
have never gone down that trail and what
I find is too many people when they lead
they give direction and they cast vision
but they don't ask great questions and
so this book teaches you great questions
to ask okay in fact I'm gonna give you
one okay just go give you one why would
I give you any more you got to get the
book but I'm gonna I'm gonna give you
one and this one is so good that this
one's gonna unlock all kind of doors of
opportunity for you trust me I I mean
this is gonna unlock a lot of doors in
fact look at your neighbor and say to
them the question John going to give us
is pure gold go ahead and tell them that
I'm gonna give you a question yeah yeah
are you ready to receive some gold hey
hey hey hey hey come on it come on back
your truck up come on back your truck up
I'm about to dump some gold in it okay
I'm gonna
come on back to that track up I've gotta
have it you got a big truck here huh I'm
gonna dumps it in fact just look at your
neighbor and say John's going to dump
gold on you yeah he is he's got it he's
gonna drop dump gold on you right now I
get back to track up are you ready this
question is so good
I'm not sure you have a big enough truck
but this is so good I have asked this
question hundreds of times it is open
dozens and dozens of doors for me this
is just one of the hundreds of questions
I have in the book just one and when I
give you this one you're going to say
this is soap whenever you see someone in
whenever you see somebody that you just
really like and connect with and they
have some element of success in their
life ask this question who do you know
that I should know I told you I told you
I told you it's stinking good and huh
that's just I mean who do you know that
I should know
that's just that's just one that ate
that question has given me opportunities
to meet people that are off the charts
in the area of success
my number one mentor my number one
mentor my life John Wooden UCLA the the
top coat the top coach of the 20th
century I literally asked a I asked a
schoolteacher one day who do you know
that I should know and he looked at me
he said I know John Wooden would you
like to know him I said yes I would take
me to him he took me to him and I
developed this incredible mentoring
relationship with him he taught me so
much in this last few years of his life
who do you know that you good leaders
ask great questions you got the title
that book look at your neighbor and say
get that book immediately telling that
get that book at me okay you are a very
smart audience you're very quick you're
very sharp and I'm going to I'm going to
give you out of the 15 laws of growth
I'm going to give you at least three
laws in the time that I'm given and and
so I'm going to even give them to you in
what I would consider maybe the ones
that are the most essential for you to
have under your belt there are 15 laws
but I'm going to give you I'm gonna give
you at least three right now okay so
you're about to learn something look
look at your neighbor look at your
neighbor and say you're going to learn
something go ahead and tell me you're
going to learn something
look look right back at your neighbor
and say and it's about time
[Laughter]
in fact look at your neighbor and say
why do you think I brought you here
hello you see if I could step off this
stage if I could come off the stage and
I and I could come down to where you are
and I could have a one-on-one
conversation just with you just you and
me having a one-on-one conversation
there are two questions I would ask you
and these two questions I would ask you
are absolutely essential to your success
in this business question number one
what are you doing to develop yourself
in other words what are you doing to
grow you because the only way that you
can grow the business is to grow you so
the first person that you work on the
first person you grow the first person
that you develop is you what are you
doing to develop yourself what are you
doing to grow yourself that's the first
question I want to ask you if you and I
could have a conversation just
one-on-one the second question that I
would ask you is what are you doing to
develop others what are you doing to
grow the people around you what are you
doing to develop your team
how are you growing your team I have a
couple friends that are in your business
I'm day in jail and I met them backstage
and and they had their team together and
they've only been with you just a few
months and they're just loving this
company they're just loving the
opportunity and they had their team with
them and and they used to be a part of
an organization that I had that I had
founded and so it was so good I hadn't
seen him for years and they had their
team back there and they were so excited
and I took a picture with him and and on
day I looked at me she said John she
said we're gonna grow this team just
like you taught us how to connect a
something your your personal growth and
your ability to grow yourself is
essential to your success it's essential
to your success you cannot grow it your
team any greater than you can grow
yourself it will only be as big as you
and so the laws of growth are just
absolutely essential you've got to get
them they're law
they're not good ideas they're not
principles they're laws a law is higher
than a principle a law works in every
culture a law works with both genders a
law works regardless of the time the
laws that I gave you worked 500 years
ago the laws that I gave you will work
five hundred years from now their laws
their law this is huge I started writing
laws when I wrote the 21 irrefutable
also of leadership and then I wrote the
seventeen walls of teamwork and now it's
the 15 loss of personal growth and
they're all lost I remember a guy coming
up to me on the only 21 laws of
leadership and he I was signing books he
looked he looked at me he said Johnnie
said I I disagree with one of your laws
and I'm siding the book and I said
that's okay
sign the book can hand it back to him he
didn't move he said I looked up at him
he said you didn't understand he said I
disagree with one of your laws and I
smiled and I said it's okay and then I
could tell that it wasn't okay with him
that it was okay with me and I said no
no it's okay and he still won't move he
said no he said one of your loss I just
and I said excuse me excuse me my name
is John I'm your friend I didn't write
