Negative Statements
In English the auxiliaries ‘don't, doesn't, didn't or did not’ are used before verbs in order to make negative statements. In Khmer we use either មិន (mun) or អត់ (ot) before the verb, and then use ទេ (day) at the end of the sentence in order to make a negative statement. ‘Ot’ is the more commonly used of the two auxiliaries.
Subject + ‘Ot’ / ‘Mun’ + Verb ... ‘Day’
I am not well - knyom mun sok sabay day ខ្ញុំ មិន សុខ សប្បាយ ទេ
I don't work in Phnom Penh - knyom ot twer gaa nau Phnom Penh day ខ្ញុំ អត់ ធ្វើការ នៅ ភ្នំពេញ ទេ
